Baidu's AI Business Drives 36% Revenue Growth

Baidu’s strategic shift toward artificial intelligence is gaining momentum, as evidenced by a 36% year-on-year increase in revenue from its core AI-powered business during the first half of 2026. This segment now accounts for 51% of the Baidu General Business revenue stream, a significant milestone indicating a fundamental change in the company’s operations.

The overall Baidu General Business generated revenue of RMB51.2 billion during the period. The growth in the AI-powered business is particularly notable given ongoing pressure on the company’s traditional online marketing business. Baidu attributes this success to strengthening its full-stack AI capabilities, encompassing chips, cloud infrastructure, foundation models, and applications. The company’s commitment to AI is reflected in the increasing proportion of revenue generated by this segment, exceeding half of Baidu General Business revenue in both the first and second quarters of 2026.

Further bolstering this trend, revenue from Baidu’s AI Cloud Infrastructure saw a substantial 65% year-on-year increase, reaching RMB16.1 billion in the first half of 2026. This growth suggests strong demand for Baidu’s AI cloud services amongst businesses and developers. The company’s interim report highlights the firm’s transition from an internet-centric company to one focused on AI, signaling a long-term commitment to this rapidly evolving field.

The shift toward AI is occurring within a broader Chinese economic context characterized by cautious investor sentiment and a focus on technological self-sufficiency. The growth of Baidu’s AI business suggests the company is successfully navigating these conditions and capitalizing on the increasing demand for AI solutions within the Chinese market. The sustained growth of the AI segment, alongside the challenges faced by the online marketing sector, underscores the importance of diversification and innovation for Chinese tech companies.
