Caterpillar Sales Surge 22% as Demand Outpaces Last Year

Caterpillar Inc. reported a significant surge in retail sales for the third quarter of 2026, with total sales increasing by 22% compared to the same period in 2025. The gains were largely propelled by a 36% jump in the Power & Energy segment, according to supplemental data released alongside the company’s 8-K filing on October 29, 2026.

Within Power & Energy, the Power Generation application led the way with an impressive 75% increase in retail sales, while Oil & Gas saw a more moderate 5% rise. The Industrial application experienced a 3% decline. Overall, these results demonstrate a strong demand for Caterpillar’s power systems across multiple sectors. The company’s Construction Industries segment also showed positive momentum, with global sales up 20%, but performance varied by region. North America led with a 27% increase, while sales in Latin America rose by 13% and EAME (Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Eurasia) increased by 16%. Notably, sales in Asia/Pacific decreased by 2%.

The Resource Industries segment experienced a combined 4% increase, with Mining, Heavy Construction, and Quarry & Aggregates (HC and Q&A) showing an 8% rise. However, the Rail portion of this segment experienced a substantial 70% decrease, though this follows a 272% increase in the prior quarter. Caterpillar attributes these retail sales figures to data voluntarily provided by its independent dealers and OEMs, acknowledging that the data is unaudited and may not be fully accurate.

These sales increases come amid ongoing concerns about global trade dynamics and geopolitical risks, as flagged in recent analyst reports. While Caterpillar did not provide specific net income or earnings per share figures in the initial 8-K filing, the strong retail sales data suggests positive momentum in key segments. The robust demand in Power Generation and Construction Industries, particularly in North America and EAME, indicates resilience in the face of broader economic uncertainties. However, the decline in Asia/Pacific Construction Industries and the volatility in Rail sales highlight potential areas of concern for future performance.
