Cathay Pacific Reports Record Passenger Numbers in August
Cathay Pacific Airways reported record passenger numbers for August 2026, carrying over 3.6 million passengers across Cathay Pacific and HK Express. This represents a 4% increase compared to August 2025. Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) also rose, increasing by 3% over the same period.
Through the first eight months of 2026, the airline group carried 15% more passengers than in the first eight months of 2025. Demand was driven by leisure travel from Hong Kong and Mainland China, as well as student traffic to North America and the United Kingdom. The company expects demand to increase closer to the National Day ‘Golden Week’ holiday period in September, which typically experiences a seasonal dip in travel.
Alongside passenger growth, Cathay Cargo experienced a 9% increase in cargo tonnage compared to August 2025. Available Freight Tonne Kilometres (AFTKs) increased by 1%. The first eight months of the year saw an 8% increase in total cargo tonnage year-on-year. These gains occurred despite elevated jet fuel prices.
The filing details traffic figures and commentary on demand trends, but does not disclose specific financial figures related to revenue or profitability. The reported growth in passenger and cargo volume suggests continued recovery in air travel and trade activity, but the impact of fuel costs on earnings remains a key consideration.
