China Energy Construction Reports Profit Growth in First Half 2026

China Energy Construction reported a net profit attributable to shareholders of 22.79 billion yuan for the first half of 2026, representing a 21.88% increase year-over-year. This growth comes alongside a 1.64% increase in operating revenue for its energy and water business, reaching 2,083.12 billion yuan. The company also secured new contracts totaling 5,131.88 billion yuan during the period.

The company’s strategic focus on emerging industries appears to be gaining traction, with new contracts in the energy storage and hydrogen sectors increasing by 30.02% and 179.28% respectively. Water conservancy contracts also saw substantial growth, increasing by 220.46%. These gains contrast with a broader contraction in the construction industry, which the company notes presented a challenge to its overall performance. The proportion of contracts settled in foreign currencies improved to 99.1% from 85.6% in the same period last year, strengthening cash flow.

China Energy Construction is actively investing in new energy technologies, completing a 6.5 billion yuan directed issue to fund strategic emerging industries. These investments resulted in 816 billion yuan in revenue from strategic emerging industries. The company highlighted progress in long-duration energy storage technologies, including the stable operation of a 300MW compressed air energy storage project, and the development of green hydrogen production facilities. The company also is expanding into the “energy plus computing” sector, with its Qingyang data center project demonstrating progress.

The company’s profitability and revenue growth occurred while maintaining a strong position in core businesses like fire-fired power generation, grid infrastructure, and nuclear power. The filing indicates that the company received an 'A' grade or 'Excellent' rating across seven assessments conducted by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, highlighting its core competitiveness. While the report detailed growth in revenue and profit, it does not disclose information on capital adequacy ratios or non-performing loan ratios. The company's performance reflects its commitment to strategic emerging industries and maintaining its position in traditional energy sectors amid a dynamic macroeconomic environment.
