China Shenhua Reports September Operational Data, Integrates New Assets
China Shenhua Energy Company Limited reported its major operational data for September 2026, revealing a 3.2% year-over-year increase in commercial coal production, reaching 44.5 million tonnes. Year-to-date commercial coal production totaled 381.9 million tonnes, a decrease of 2.3% compared to the same period in 2025. Coal sales for September reached 51.4 million tonnes, up 4.8% year-over-year, while cumulative coal sales totaled 460.6 million tonnes, representing a marginal 0.1% increase year-to-date.
The data now incorporates the business volumes of assets recently acquired from China Energy Investment Corporation Limited, following the completion of a share issuance and cash payment transaction. To ensure comparability, the company has retrospectively adjusted its major operational data for the corresponding period in 2025. This consolidation follows a broader trend of Chinese energy firms diversifying through international resource acquisition and strengthening domestic supply chains.
Gross power generation in September 2026 increased by 1.3% year-over-year to 24.69 billion kilowatt-hours, while total power output dispatch rose by 1.0% to 23.10 billion kilowatt-hours. Production within the coal chemicals segment also saw varied results. Polyolefin sales increased by 4.1% to 17.7 tenthousand tonnes, while oil product sales experienced a substantial 66.2% increase to 12.8 tenthousand tonnes, attributed to the resumption of full production following process upgrades. Ethylene glycol sales saw a significant increase of 1,200.0% to 2.6 tenthousand tonnes, due to a lower base resulting from facility shutdowns for catalyst replacement in the prior year.
The company explained that a decrease in loading volume at Tianjin Coal Dock was due to reduced resource arrivals and a high comparative base from the previous year. Operational data is based on internal statistics and may vary due to factors such as weather, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections, the company cautioned.
Looking at the data, the modest overall increase in coal sales and production, alongside the significant fluctuations in the coal chemicals segment, suggests a mixed operational performance for China Shenhua. The retrospective adjustments to 2025 data, driven by the asset consolidation, provide a clearer, though complex, picture of the company’s current operational scale and its strategic realignment.
