Chow Tai Fook Seeks Up to RMB10 Billion in Panda Bonds
Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited applied to the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors for registration to issue Panda Bonds totaling up to RMB10 billion. The company intends to issue the bonds in multiple tranches over the next two years, pending approval from the Association.
The planned use of proceeds includes working capital to support strategic development and brand transformation. Specifically, funds will be allocated to strengthen jewellery product development, upgrade retail stores, and expand into new markets. A portion of the capital will also be used to repay existing borrowings.
The company secured a credit rating from China Lianhe Credit Rating Co., Ltd. to facilitate the application process. This marks Chow Tai Fook’s first application for Panda Bond issuance, a move intended to diversify funding sources and optimize its debt maturity profile.
The timing, size, and terms of each bond issuance will depend on market conditions, with coupon rates determined through a book-building process. The bonds will be traded on the China Interbank Bond Market.
This bond issuance comes as Chinese consumption remains sluggish, potentially impacting the demand for luxury goods like jewellery. Diversifying funding sources may become increasingly important for companies operating within this economic climate.
