NGK Raises Full-Year Forecasts After Strong First-Half Results

NGK announced a substantial upward revision of its full-year financial forecasts following a strong first-half performance, driven by robust demand across its core business segments. The company now anticipates improved revenue, operating profit, and net income compared to prior expectations, fueled by favorable market conditions and a weaker yen.

For the first-half period ended September 30, 2026, NGK reported a 13.8% year-over-year increase in sales, reaching ¥371.366 billion. Operating profit surged by 43.5% to ¥69.889 billion, while net income attributable to shareholders skyrocketed by 154.7% to ¥60.8 billion. These gains were attributed to strong demand for automotive-related products within its Environment business, a significant increase in demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and high-serum carriers within its Digital Society segment, and a positive impact from the yen's depreciation. The Energy & Industry business saw a decline in sales due to the prior-year conclusion of its sodium/sulfur battery manufacturing and sales activities, but overall company performance remained strong.

Looking ahead, NGK revised its full-year forecasts, anticipating continued momentum in the Environment and Digital Society businesses. Demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, particularly related to AI applications, is expected to remain strong. The company now projects a full-year dividend of ¥126 per share, a ¥10 increase from its previous forecast, with an interim dividend of ¥63 per share already approved. This increase underscores NGK's confidence in its financial outlook and commitment to returning value to shareholders.

NGK's strong performance reflects broader trends in the technology and automotive sectors, with increased investment in AI and data centers driving demand for specialized materials. The company’s ability to capitalize on these trends, coupled with the benefit of a weaker yen, has resulted in substantial gains in profitability. The reported increase in net income was also positively influenced by gains from the sale of investment securities, changes in tax burdens related to a business reorganization, and the completion of overseas subsidiary liquidations.
