RATIONAL AG Q3 Revenue Rises 6%, Margin Boosted by Tariff Refund
RATIONAL AG benefited from a combination of organic growth and a one-time financial boost in the third quarter, with revenue rising 6% to €332.2 million and the EBIT margin expanding to 27.5% – a jump from 25.9% in the same period last year. The margin increase was largely attributable to a refund of US tariffs recognized in the second quarter and a subsequent reduction in related provisions, prompting the company to raise its full-year EBIT margin guidance to 26-27% from a previous range of 25-26%.
The company’s strong performance in Europe, particularly in Germany, Spain, and Scandinavia, fueled the revenue growth. Sales in Germany increased by 9% to €103.8 million, while Europe excluding Germany saw an 8% rise to €422.6 million. North America also contributed with a 5% increase in sales, though growth in Asia remained subdued due to challenges in China. Both the iCombi and iVario product lines saw growth, increasing by 5% and 10% respectively.
Beyond the tariff impact, RATIONAL AG experienced a positive gross margin of 59.5%, up from 58.7% in the prior year. This occurred despite adverse currency effects and rising costs for raw materials, electronics, chemicals, and energy. The overall EBIT climbed 11.5% to €261.2 million for the first nine months of the year. The positive impact of the tariff reduction is explicitly noted as providing a margin boost of over one percentage point in the third quarter.
The company’s results overall exceeded expectations, and management confirmed its previous forecast for EBIT of between €340 and €360 million for the full year. The results demonstrate the company's ability to navigate challenging macroeconomic conditions and capitalize on favorable external factors, such as the tariff refund, to improve profitability.
