Seiko Epson Receives $109M US Customs Duty Refund

Seiko Epson will record a $109 million customs duty refund in its fiscal second quarter ending March 2027. The refund results from a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) review following a Supreme Court decision deeming certain tariffs invalid.

Seiko Epson initially filed for the refund in June 2026, seeking reimbursement for duties assessed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The CBP’s review, processed through the second phase of its automated system, confirmed the $109 million refund amount, plus accrued interest.

The company previously reflected the expected impact of this refund in its first-quarter earnings report for the fiscal year ending March 2027, released on August 5, 2026. The refund represents a material financial impact for the company.

The timing of this refund arrives as global trade policies remain subject to geopolitical shifts and legal challenges, influencing the financial performance of multinational corporations reliant on international supply chains. The full impact of similar rulings across the sector remains to be seen.
