Shionogi to Acquire IntraBio for $2 Billion
Shionogi & Co., Ltd. will acquire IntraBio Inc. for $2 billion. Shionogi’s US group company, Shionogi Inc., entered into a stock purchase agreement with IntraBio on October 5, 2026, making IntraBio a wholly-owned subsidiary. The deal provides Shionogi with global rights to AQNEURSA® (levasacetyl leucine) and related intellectual property.
AQNEURSA® is approved in the US and Europe for treating neurological symptoms associated with Niemann-Pick disease Type C (NPC). It recently received FDA approval on September 18, 2026, as a treatment for Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T), with a supplemental application pending in Europe. Shionogi intends to leverage its existing US commercial infrastructure, built around RADICAVA® for ALS, to accelerate AQNEURSA®’s availability to patients.
The acquisition aims to strengthen Shionogi’s presence in rare diseases, adding both new products and specialized expertise. Shionogi previously began global sales of edaravone (RADICAVA® in the US) for ALS in April 2026. The company anticipates that the acquisition will accelerate development of its pipeline for other rare diseases, including Fragile X syndrome, Jordan’s syndrome, and Pompe disease. IntraBio’s 2025 year-end financials show $173.701 million in total assets and $144.549 million in net assets.
