SoftBank Completes $10B OpenAI Investment, Reaches 13% Stake

SoftBank Group completed a $10 billion third tranche investment in OpenAI on October 1, 2026, bringing its cumulative investment to $64.6 billion for an approximate 13% stake. The investment was funded through proceeds from a recently issued senior bond, as previously disclosed on September 24, 2026.

This final tranche completes the $300 billion additional investment in OpenAI initially announced on March 2, 2026. Simultaneously, SoftBank prepaid the remaining $10 billion drawndown from a $400 billion bridge loan facility, fully terminating the agreement. This follows an earlier prepayment announced on September 9, 2026.

SoftBank’s continued investment in OpenAI reflects ongoing commitment to the AI sector. The completion of this funding and debt repayment streamlines the company’s capital structure, aligning with a broader strategy of optimizing its financial position amidst a volatile market for technology investments. The completed investment and bridge loan repayment represent a significant financial maneuver for the conglomerate.
