SoftBank to Fully Repay $25.9B OpenAI Investment Loan
SoftBank Group will fully repay a $25.9 billion bridge loan by September 15, 2026. The loan, established on March 27, 2026, had a $40 billion borrowing limit and was used to finance additional investment in OpenAI.
The company has notified lenders of its intent to repay the entire outstanding balance of $25.9 billion. This figure represents the full amount drawn from the $40 billion facility. The exchange rate used for the conversion to Japanese Yen is 1 USD = 153.74 JPY, equating to approximately 3.9819 trillion JPY.
Prior disclosures detailed the initial agreement to invest in OpenAI, the execution of the first and second tranches of that investment, and the establishment of the bridge loan facility. The rapid repayment of this loan suggests SoftBank’s ability to meet its financial obligations related to its significant investments in the AI sector.
The successful repayment comes as investors closely monitor the performance of SoftBank’s Vision Fund and its portfolio companies, particularly those in high-growth technology areas like artificial intelligence.
