Süss Microtec Lowers Guidance After Production Shift

Süss Microtec is adjusting its production network, consolidating operations in Zhubei, Taiwan, and Sternenfels, Germany, resulting in a lowered financial outlook for 2026. The company now anticipates revenue of €405-425 million, a reduction from its previous forecast of €425-485 million, and an EBIT margin of 5-7%, down from 8-10%. These revisions are directly linked to one-time expenses of approximately €6.2 million, around €4.5 million of which will impact the current fiscal year, associated with the production relocation.

The decision to consolidate manufacturing at its two largest sites aims to enhance scalability, efficiency, and competitiveness, particularly as the company experiences continued strong order intake and a record-high order book. Approximately 70 employees at the Garching, Germany, facility will be affected by the restructuring, which the company intends to implement through social dialogue with employee representatives. This move underscores a strategic effort to optimize operations amidst robust demand in the advanced packaging and semiconductor manufacturing sectors.

The market reacted negatively to the news, with Süss Microtec’s stock price falling sharply following the announcement. Investors are responding to the revised guidance and the immediate costs associated with the production shift. While the company maintains its gross margin forecast of 35-37%, the lowered EBIT margin signals a potential squeeze on profitability in the near term.

This production relocation builds on a previously identified strategy to ensure geographic flexibility in manufacturing, as highlighted in the company's 2025 annual report, which noted the ability to relocate production and establish supply chains in alternative locations. The current move appears to be an execution of that plan, responding to both strong demand and the need for operational efficiency. While the restructuring carries short-term costs, it's framed as a step to strengthen the company's long-term competitiveness.

Süss Microtec’s adjustment to its 2026 forecast reflects both the direct costs of the production shift and anticipated revenue deferrals due to component supply constraints. These factors, combined with the one-time expenses, have prompted a more conservative outlook. The company's ability to navigate these logistical challenges and realize the promised cost efficiencies from the relocation will be key to restoring investor confidence and driving future growth.
