Traton SE Sales Rise 10% in Q3, Led by US Recovery
Traton SE reported a 10% increase in unit sales for the third quarter of 2026, reaching 78,900 vehicles, primarily fueled by a rebound in the US market. This marks an acceleration in the company’s sales momentum, following a 4% increase in the second quarter of the year.
The resurgence in the US is particularly notable, with the International Motors brand experiencing a nearly 50% surge in sales. This recovery follows disruptions related to previous trade-related issues, suggesting a normalization of market conditions. Scania also contributed to the positive trend, with a 3% increase in sales, supported by production ramp-ups at its new Chinese facility and a Brazilian government loan program. MAN Truck & Bus, however, experienced a slight 1% decline in sales.
Overall, Traton’s cumulative sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 230,400 vehicles, representing a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. While the company’s overall electric vehicle sales saw a 6% decline in the quarter, Scania and MAN bucked the trend, with electric vehicle sales increasing by 55% and 32% respectively. Volkswagen Truck & Bus posted a 375% increase in EV sales, though from a small base.
This positive performance for Traton contrasts with a broader downturn in Volkswagen Group’s overall deliveries, which decreased by 14.3% in the same period, largely due to a significant drop in sales in China. The company attributes the challenges in China to a declining overall market, price pressures, and increased competition from domestic manufacturers. Traton, however, appears to be navigating these headwinds more effectively, at least in specific markets like the US.
Traton will publish its full 9M 2026 Interim Statement on October 28, 2026, providing a more detailed analysis of its financial performance and future outlook. The current data points to a strengthening position for Traton, driven by recovery in key markets and a growing, though still modest, contribution from electric vehicle sales.
