Unimicron Invests $323M in Land for Capacity Expansion
Unimicron Technology Corp. is significantly expanding its land holdings with a NT$10.08888 billion (approximately $323 million USD) investment in property located in Hukou Township, Hsinchu County, Taiwan. The move, detailed in a September 30th filing, is explicitly aimed at bolstering the company’s capacity for advanced packaging to meet anticipated demand from its customer base.
The acquisition encompasses 19 land parcels totaling 63,048 square meters, and 14 buildings with a combined area of 58,186.50 square meters, purchased from Taiwan Bridgestone Co. Ltd., a non-related party. The decision to proceed with the purchase was approved by the board of directors on September 8th and subsequently ratified by the company’s supervisory board on the same date. The company utilized a bidding process, referencing professional appraisal reports to determine the transaction price.
Unimicron stated the expansion is a proactive step to align with its medium and long-term operational strategy, focused on production deployment and capacity planning. Two appraisal firms, De Tian Real Estate Appraisers and Gao Yuan Real Estate Appraisers, provided valuations of NT$8.424 billion and NT$8.856 billion, respectively. The investment underscores Unimicron’s anticipation of continued growth in demand for advanced packaging solutions, potentially driven by the current boom in artificial intelligence hardware and high-performance computing.
The company did not disclose specific financial projections tied to the expanded capacity. However, the scale of the investment suggests a substantial commitment to meeting future demand. The success of this expansion will be tied to Unimicron’s ability to translate the increased capacity into higher revenues and profitability in the coming years, metrics not currently detailed in the filing.
