Wistron Corp Invests Heavily in AI Infrastructure Expansion

Wistron Corp. is significantly investing in its manufacturing capabilities, with a clear strategic focus on artificial intelligence, as evidenced by a series of recent disclosures. On October 12, 2026, the company announced board approval for building improvements and equipment purchases totaling NT$6,457,598,000 for its Kaohsiung plant and NT$591,586,000 for its Hsinchu facility. The Hsinchu investment is specifically directed towards an ‘international AI smart park’ and a ‘Zhubei AI second factory,’ indicating a deliberate move into AI-related infrastructure.

This investment in AI capacity is further underscored by the simultaneous announcement of a factory acquisition in the Tainan Science Park. Wistron intends to purchase a factory spanning approximately 10,559 ping (34,905 square meters) for a total cost not exceeding NT$1,000,000,000 from non-affiliated entity, Zhongqiang Optoelectronics Co. Ltd. The stated purpose for both the facility upgrades and the acquisition is to meet future business growth demands. Independent valuations of the Tainan property were received from Hua Shin and Zhonghua Real Estate Appraisers at NT$895,573,000 and NT$854,186,000 respectively.

Alongside these expansion efforts, Wistron also increased its guarantee amounts for three subsidiaries – WBR, WTVN, and WUS – totaling NT$23,524,000,000. This increase, attributed to subsidiary financing needs, brings the total outstanding guarantees to NT$147,309,764,000, representing 75.93% of the company’s most recent net worth. The combined total of guarantees, long-term investments, and funds loaned represents 37.52% of the latest reported net worth.

These filings collectively demonstrate a significant capital deployment strategy centered on expanding manufacturing capacity and positioning Wistron within the rapidly evolving AI sector. The company's financial commitments to AI infrastructure, coupled with increased financing support for its subsidiaries, signal a proactive approach to capitalizing on emerging technological trends. Tracking the utilization of these new facilities and the financial performance of the supported subsidiaries will be crucial in assessing the success of this strategic shift.
